霊鑑寺は通常非公開の尼門跡寺院です。
通常非公開の寺院ですが、
紅葉の時期に合わせて特別公開いたします。

庭園内の蔵にて雪舟、円山応挙、狩野探幽、狩野派の掛け軸を一挙初公開

本年は庭園内の蔵において、雪舟、円山応挙、狩野探幽、狩野派の掛け軸を一挙初公開いたします。
天皇から寄贈された掛け軸など霊鑑寺が所有する数々の絵画約20点を間近でご覧いただけます。

書院内部

天皇の院御所から移築した書院と本堂

映画の撮影場所としても使用された書院は、後西（ごさい）天皇の院御所から移築したもの。書院内には「四季花鳥図」など狩野派の作と伝わる華麗な障壁画や保存状態の良い襖絵、御所人形、貝あわせなど皇室ゆかりの寺宝が多いのも見どころです。
また江戸幕府十一代将軍・徳川家斉とくがわいえなりが寄進した本堂も公開。本堂内には如意輪観音像が安置されています。
※本堂の中に上がることはできません。

庭園を散策する途中には、そびえたつ「霊鑑寺楓」が拝観者を出迎え、春とはまた違った景色を見せてくれます。
また秋の特別御朱印も授与いたします。

霊鑑寺 霊鑑寺


Reikanji Temple

承応3年（1654）、後水尾ごみずのお天皇の皇女・多利宮たりのみやを開基として創建され、歴代皇女が住職を務めた尼門跡寺院。
別名「谷の御所」と呼ばれた格式と清楚な佇まいを今に伝えています。
そして、後西ごさい天皇の院御所から移築した書院は「四季花鳥図」など狩野派の作と伝わる華麗な障壁が飾られており、本堂は江戸幕府十一代将軍・徳川家斉とくがわいえなりが寄進したもので、如意輪観音像を安置しています。

Reikanji

The temple is known as the “Imperial Residence in the Valley” due to various imperial princesses having served as its head priest through the ages. Additionally, the temple's drawing rooms are decorated with magnificent partition paintings done in the Kano school style and have even been used for filming movies.
The Philosopher's Walk, a famous destination for cherry blossom viewing, is located nearby.

This year, hanging scrolls by Kano School artists such as Sesshu, Maruyama Okyo, and Kano Tanyu will be displayed together for the first time at the warehouse in the garden. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to view nearly 20 hanging scrolls including the ones gifted to Reikanji Temple by the emperors up close.

The drawing room

The drawing room, which was transported from Emperor Gosai's palace, has also been used as a shooting location for movies. There are many highlights from the Imperial Household among the temple treasures, including gorgeous murals said to be of the Kano school, such as Flowers and Birds of the Four Seasons, well preserved drawings on sliding paper doors, palace dolls, and a traditional shell matching game. The main hall was a gift from Tokugawa Ienari, the 11th Tokugawa shogun, and is home to the enshrined statue of Nyoirin Kannon, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. Note that visitors are not allowed in the main hall.

While strolling through the garden, the towering Reikanji Temple Maple will greet visitors, offering a different view than in springtime. Special autumnn seal stamps will also be provided.

  • A seven-minute walk from Shinnyodo-mae or Kinrin Shako-mae stops on route number 5 Kyoto City Bus from Kyoto Station or Sanjo Station on the Keihan Main Line.
  • A five-minute walk from Kamimiyanomaecho stop on route number 32 Kyoto City Bus.
  • A 25-minute walk from Keage Station on the Tozai subway line.
